In
2005 The Band-Aid Box project was initiated to provide
medical supplies and aid for a Medical Camp in the village of Khari
Khola in the Solu Khumbu, Nepal.
The
generosity of the Taranaki Community resulted in a quantity of
medical supplies being shipped to Nepal. Funds donated enabled a
Doctor, with volunteers Robin Drake, Isobel Rose and Claire Lee, to
treat nearly 1300 villagers over a 10 day period. Some walked two
days to get to the clinic. Had they needed a hospital, they would
have had to walk a further two days.
The
cultural and hands-on experience lead to a commitment to continue
this support. The Band-Aid Box is to become a
Charitable Trust, with the mission of
Keeping
Khari Khola Healthy.
The
Band-Aid Box has planning underway for another health clinic in March
2006.
Make
a gift to the The Band-Aid Box and make a difference to the
well-being of the village families of Khari Khola. A
gift of $100 will engage a qualified doctor for one day and give help
to more than 100 villagers.
Cheques
made out to 'The Band-Aid Box' may be posted to The Band-Aid Box PO Box
71, Inglewood, Taranaki, New Zealand. All gifts will be
acknowledged.
