In April 2007 the Band-Aid Box conducted a third and highly successful medical clinic in the remote village of Khari Khola, Everest Region in Nepal treating some 2,062 patients over 14 days. This year Ophthalmic & Cataract Surgery was added to the range of services at the clinic; a first for the village. The clinic was delivered by volunteer medics from New Zealand and a Nepal medical team providing dental, surgical, gynaecological and general check-ups, plus provided a comprehensive Pharmacy. Had the villagers needed a hospital they would have walked for a further 2 days, if they were able! The Band-Aid Box has made application for registration as a Charitable Trust, and to the New Zealand Inland Revenue Dept for “Donee” status to allow tax exemptions on donations. All donations will benefit the villagers of Khari Khola which will further endorse the trust’s aim, "Keeping Khari Khola healthy" The Band-Aid Box has planning underway for a fourth health clinic in March 2008.
